Rechargeable Hearing Aids

Reasons to Consider Rechargeable Hearing Aids

f

Ease of Use

Rechargeable hearing aids are particularly useful if you have decreased dexterity or health issues that make handling small objects difficult. Place the hearing aid in the charger at night and in the morning it will be fully charged and ready for use.

Go Green

Rechargeable batteries are better for the environment. You may only need to replace the batteries once over a 3 – 4 year time span.

No Additional Costs

The cost to replace your rechargeable batteries is less than the cost to replace regular hearing aid batteries over the same period of time.

What are Rechargeable Hearing Aids?

Hearing aid technology like most technology goes through stages of evolution.  The most recent technological advance has been to the category of rechargeable hearing aids.  Although rechargeable hearing aids have been around for quite some time, they were unable to hold a charge for an extended period of time, often just a few hours.  Technologically has advanced to the point where a rechargeable hearing aid can now hold a charge for days.

Hearing Aid FAQ

What is a hearing aid?

A hearing aid is a small electronic device that you wear in or behind your ear. It makes some sounds louder so that a person with hearing loss can listen, communicate, and participate more fully in daily activities. A hearing aid can help people hear more in both quiet and noisy situations. However, only about one out of five people who would benefit from a hearing aid actually uses one.

A hearing aid has three basic parts: a microphone, amplifier, and speaker. The hearing aid receives sound through a microphone, which converts the sound waves to electrical signals and sends them to an amplifier. The amplifier increases the power of the signals and then sends them to the ear through a speaker.

Do all hearing aids work the same way?

With today’s advances in technology, there is a hearing aid style to fit everyone’s needs. Rechargeable hearing aids free users from having to purchase and change batteries frequently and hold a 24 hour charge. Bluetooth technology allows you to connect your mobile devices seamlessly to your hearing aids, great for tech-savvy wearers that are on the go. There are small, undetectable, water-resistant hearing aids made for all day wear that are perfect for those with an active lifestyle.

We fit a wide assortment of hearing devices, because we understand that our patients have different lifestyles and varying hearing needs.

How do I care for hearing aids?

Proper maintenance and care will extend the life of your hearing aid. Make it a habit to:

  • Keep hearing aids away from heat and moisture.
  • Clean hearing aids as instructed. Earwax and ear drainage can damage a hearing aid.
  • Avoid using hairspray or other hair care products while wearing hearing aids.
  • Turn off hearing aids when they are not in use.
  • Replace dead batteries immediately.
  • Keep batteries and hearing aids away from children and pets.
What Is Sudden Hearing Loss
What is sudden deafness?
Sudden sensorineural (“inner ear”) hearing loss (SSHL), commonly known as sudden deafness, is an unexplained, rapid loss of hearing either all at once or over a few days. SSHL happens because there is something wrong with the sensory organs of the inner ear. Sudden deafness frequently affects only one ear.

What causes sudden deafness?
A variety of disorders affecting the ear can cause SSHL, but only about 10 percent of people diagnosed with SSHL have an identifiable cause.

Some of these conditions include:

  • Infections.
  • Head trauma.
  • Autoimmune diseases.
  • Exposure to certain drugs that treat cancer or severe infections.
  • Blood circulation problems.
  • Neurological disorders, such as multiple sclerosis.
  • Disorders of the inner ear, such as Ménière’s disease.

If you are experiencing a sudden hearing loss, please contact your local ENT immediately for an evaluation. Fast treatment for this kind of hearing loss is essential and gives us the best hope for any restoration of hearing.
